Terrain-, surface- and building models

Classified point clouds are often converted to digital terrain or surface models (DTM, DSM). These are regular grids with constant width (e.g. 0.5 m). The models are gained by interpolation from the dense and irregular point clouds.

In contrast to point clouds, raster models are only 2.5D. Thus, structures like overhanging cliffs cannot be modelled correctly.

For the generation of building models, the points of the building class are grouped according to geometric properties. Subsequently, roof structures (LOD2) are created semi-automatically and may be textured when needed.
