Georeferencing

Aims and procedures

High-quality georeferencing is essential when using aerial data for surveying. Apart from direct georeferencing by GPS and INS, methods of choice are aerial triangulation of images and advanced strip adjustment of laser scanning data.

Georeferencing uses several ingredients

  • GPS/INS data from the roving antenna combined with reference-station data (direct georeferencing)
  • Tie points between images or flight strips
  • Ground-control points or surfaces (indirect georeferencing)

Sensor calibration may be improved within the georeferencing process.
